Playing Soccer instead of the Staff Room

Today I did something that I have done a lot in past years, but not as much this year due to time constraints.  I put everything on pause and went out for a nutrition break and played soccer with my class.

The amount you learn about your students from interacting with them outside of the class is amazing.  Students who are quiet in class, have a voice on the field.  Those that have trouble problem solving in the classroom, work through disputes in the game.  Everyone worked together no matter which team they were on to have FUN.

In the end that’s what it’s all about, getting outside and having some fun with your students.  Letting them see you in a different light and seeing another side of them. The physical exercise doesn’t hurt either. 🙂

How can we bring that outdoor recess attitude into the classroom?

How do you interact with your students in a way other than the traditional teacher role?
